Course Title:

Lift Truck Experienced Operator Course

Course objectives:

To further enhance the experience and to teach basic skill requirements and associated job safety knowledge to existing experienced operators of lift trucks who have had no formal training.

Who should attend this course:

Existing experienced operators who use the lift truck type in question on a regular basis (this course will include a brief informal assessment to ensure suitability to the course)

Course duration:

This course is typically between 2 and 3 days dependent upon the numbers of delegates attending the course. ITSSAR accredited courses for lift trucks are strictly a maximum of 3 delegates to one instructor and one machine to ensure the training meets the training ratios laid out in the Approved Code of Practice L117

Machine types experienced training is delivered on include:

Counter balance, reach, side loaders, multi directional (e.g. combi lifts), telescopic handlers, narrow aisle, articulated pivot steer (e.g. bendi), rough terrain, transportable (e.g. moffet mounty).

Experienced operator courses are also available on pedestrian operated lift trucks that have shorter durations and we will be only too pleased to help with course timings on these types of machines.

Certification:

Successful delegates will receive a experienced operator certificate of basic skill and ability endorsed by ITSSAR with their registration number to the Trained Operator Passport Scheme (TOPS)

Training Material:

Delegates will receive relevant course handouts to support theoretical knowledge gained

Location:

At customers premises or at our centre (reach and counterbalance only in centre)

Theoretical Knowledge

  1. The need to train & statutory requirements
  2. Counterbalance Principles
  3. Rated Capacities
  4. Stability and instability
  5. Operator Safety Code
  6. Suitable safety films
  7. Multi choice theory test

Practical Skill Instruction

  1. Introduction to the machine (in training centre only)
  2. Control familiarisation (in training centre only)
  3. Daily checks/refuelling procedures
  4. Battery charging & simple battery maintenance or refueling procedures
  5. Basic and advanced driving and steering procedures
  6. Load handling/weight assessment
  7. Stacking / de-stacking procedures
  8. Bulk stacking / de-stacking exercises
  9. Stacking / de-stacking corner locating loads*
  10. Handling awkward loads
  11. Vehicle loading / unloading*
  12. Pre -use check test
  13. Practical skills test
